“…a really nice dose of dream pop” — BrooklynVegan
“There aren’t many pop musicians that could forgo a chorus, change the chord progression mid-song, maintain a lyrical sense of melancholy and emerge in a shimmering, synth-backed guitar solo that makes you want to dance in your bedroom. Most pop musicians aren’t Belle Mare, though…” — The Wild Honey Pie
From their humble beginnings recording songs in the confines of a bedroom in Brooklyn, to the expansive sounds produced at the famed Electric Lady Studios in Manhattan, Belle Mare have maintained their stark minimalism in conjunction with the sincerity and fragility of singer Amelia Bushell’s voice.
The duo, consisting of Thomas Servidone and Amelia Bushell, met at the now defunct Bar 4 in Park Slope in 2012. Beginning with their EP, The Boat of the Fragile Mind, a collection of eight songs described as “spaciously eerie” by SPIN, the duo went on to record their first full length album Heaven Forget, released in the fall of 2016. The album featured the singles, Cicada, which BULLETT called, “the most beautiful song of the month,” and “Dark Of My Evening”, a ‘Track of the Week’ at Interview Magazine. In addition, Belle Mare collaborated with director Nicole Mackinlay Hahn on the video for Cicada, which premiered via The New York Times’ T Magazine, chronicling a stunning journey of the women of Burkina Faso.
Belle Mare will release their new EP, Liars, on October 19th.
